Breast Cancer Awareness Month Begins
October 3rd, 2024 by admin
Happy October! As Breast Cancer Awareness month begins, pink ribbons will be a common sight. The pink ribbon symbolizes courage, hope, and the support of individuals and businesses in the fight against breast cancer.
In the U.S., there are over 4 million breast cancer survivors, including women still being treated and those who have completed treatment, showcasing resilience and strength. Globally, 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022, with an unfortunate 670,000 losing their lives. Shockingly, every 14 seconds, a woman receives a breast cancer diagnosis worldwide.
It's essential to recognize that breast cancer impacts both women and men. By 2024, an estimated 310,720 women and 2,790 men in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer. This disease remains the most prevalent cancer among U.S. women, with 30% of all newly diagnosed cases being breast cancer.
Early detection is key. In 2024, around 310,720 women will receive invasive breast cancer diagnoses, with 16% under 50 years old. Additionally, 56,500 women will be diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Luckily, 66% of cases are detected at a localized stage — before cancer has spread outside of the breast — when treatments tend to work better.
Preventive care begins at home with regular self-examinations, advised at least once a month. Let's raise awareness, support, and encourage early detection in the fight against breast cancer.
