Mitel® offers a range of solutions that work with Mitel Communications Director (MCD) to provide telephony and presence integration to Microsoft® Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and Microsoft Lync™ 2010 Server.
Microsoft®-certified direct SIP connectivity between Mitel® Communications Director (MCD) and Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 R2 and Microsoft Lync™ 2010 Server allows end-users to establish calls from a Microsoft Office Communicator or Lync client, acting as a basic SIP softphone, to or from a Mitel desk phone, the public switched telephone network (PSTN), or any other network-connected PBX.
Users can dial through the find field, through a contact list, or through the Microsoft Office suite of products as defined by the Microsoft server specifications. All telephony services for the Communicator softphone are provided by OCS 2007 R2 or Lync. There is no integration between the Communicator or Lync client and a Mitel desk phone; if this is required, then Mitel Live Business Gateway and remote call control should be used.
Mitel is a certified PBX vendor for direct SIP connection.

Direct SIP is supported with OCS 2007 R2 and Lync using MCD 4.2 SP1.

Dual forking with remote call control (RCC) is ideal for Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 users who want to integrate their Communicator client with a Mitel desk phone - in the office or at home - using a Mitel Teleworker Solution phone. They can also use Communicator as a SIP softphone when travelling or away from their desk phone.
Note: Microsoft has discontinued support for this integration option with Microsoft Lync™.
When the user selects "computer mode" for softphone selection, the audio is handled by the computer's audio devices (speaker / headset / microphone). When the user selects "phone mode" for integration with the Mitel desk phone, the audio is handled through Mitel 3300 Controller and the Mitel desk phone.
A call presented to a user's desk phone is "forked" using the Mitel Unified Communicator® Mobile (UCM) technology to the user's Communicator softphone, and a call presented to a user's Communicator softphone is similarly "forked" by Microsoft® Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 R2 to the user's Mitel IP phone.
When a call is received, the Communicator softphone and the Mitel desk phone will ring simultaneously. An informative incoming call notification on a user's PC allows them to answer the call on their preferred device with a single click.
