Team up to Prevent Choking and Save Lives

Less than two weeks ago, on 02/14/2025, I posted that the Azusa Police Department had purchased 50 LifeVac devices to protect its community during a choking episode. Within 10 days of that post, a life has been saved with the LifeVac anti-choking airway cleaning device. Here are the amazing details:

While on duty last week, Officer Bentz was dispatched on a call to a care home. He was provided with information that a female in her forties was not breathing, semi-conscious, and possibly choking. Upon arriving, Officer Benitz determined that the staff at the care home had attempted the Heimlich maneuver several times with zero success. He had his LifeVac with him and placed the choking victim on the floor. Based on the LifeVac training he was provided, he knew EXACTLY what to do. “Place Push Pull”. After a few pulls, Officer Bentz extracted several chunks of the peanut butter sandwich. She returned to labored breathing. He turned her on her side to assist with breathing and to ensure that she did not aspirate any other bodily fluids as a result of the choking. Following this, the fire department stepped in using a tool to further clear the remaining peanut butter.

Well done, Officer Jacob Bentz – YOU ARE A HERO!

We at The Technology Depot commend his swift actions. I am honored to know him, the officers, and the management of the Azusa Police Department.

Reminder: Every second counts during a choking emergency! LifeVac is the #1 choking rescue device that saves lives. LifeVac is a portable, noninvasive airway-clearing device designed to help you respond quickly and effectively to choking emergencies. It has the potential to save lives when traditional methods like the Heimlich maneuver and back blows do not work.

As of 02/24/2025, LifeVac has reached an incredible milestone, saving 3,588 precious lives. That is 3,588 families also saved and their communities saved from the heartbreak of a choking death. A child dies from choking in the United States every five days, and 13 adults die each day from choking. More than 100,000 people go to the ER following a choking episode.

The National Safety Council says choking is the fourth leading cause of unintentional death. Food is often responsible for choking incidents in older adults, but choking can occur at any age. It’s also a leading cause of accidental death in infants.

Since 2021, The Technology Depot has ensured that the LifeVac airway clearing devices are available to local schools, police departments, emergency medical services, and the community. “We commend the Azusa Police Department for integrating LifeVac into their community with this purchase and utilizing the provided officer's hands-on training of the LifeVac. It is a tremendous honor to know them and to provide this life-saving technology,” said Ginny Dean, President of The Technology Depot.
